Deviating from its traditional celebrations, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) will, for the first time, light 12,000 diyas and offer Chappan Bhog to Goddess Lakshmi at the Badrinath shrine campus this Deepawali on Monday.
Sharing the information, BKTC Chairman Hemant Dwivedi said that Badrinath Dham will be illuminated with 12,000 diyas on the occasion of Deepawali this year.

He added that both Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines have already been decorated with 12 quintals of flowers. The offering of Chappan Bhog to Goddess Lakshmi at Badrinath marks another special addition to this year’s Deepawali celebrations.
Dwivedi said, “The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee will organise Deepotsav (festival of lights) with the support of local priests and other stakeholders at both shrines. It will be a three-day celebration of lighting diyas from October 20 to 23, ahead of the winter closure of the Badrinath Temple.”
He further stated, “The Dimri Kendriya Panchayat, along with the Mehta, Bhandari, and other stakeholders, will light 12,000 lamps at the Badrinath shrine area. Additionally, Chappan Bhog offerings will be prepared and presented at the Goddess Lakshmi Temple within the shrine complex.”
According to the BKTC chief, a similar Deepawali celebration will also take place at the Kedarnath shrine, in coordination with the temple priests. Dwivedi added that the Kedarnath Temple, too, has been decorated with 12 quintals of flowers, while the temple complex and pathways will be illuminated with earthen lamps as part of the festivities on Monday.
