Jammu and Kashmir: Army’s rescue operation in flood-hit Rajouri saves 11 civilians
Among the 11 rescued persons, five were children. They were stranded at different places in the flood-affected district following incessant rainfall.
Three Indian Army soldiers were injured after unidentified assailants launched an attack on Friday morning an Indian Army camp in Kakopathar, located in Assam’s Tinsukia district, sparking panic among local residents.
The attackers reportedly fired three Under-Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGLs) at the camp at around 12:30 am followed by almost 30 minutes of sustained gunfire in a barrage of automatic weapons.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers arrived in a truck and unleashed gunfire, with explosions and shots sparking panic among residents.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the area. Massive search operations were launched across Kakopathar and adjoining localities, with civilian movement restricted as authorities conducted combing operations.
According to the Army’s statement, troops responded instantly to the attack, exercising caution to avoid collateral damage to nearby civilian homes. The retaliatory fire forced the assailants to flee the scene after what was described as speculative firing with automatic weapons.
No major casualties were reported, though three Army personnel sustained minor abrasions.
The area has been sanitised, and joint search operations are underway in coordination with the police.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.Preliminary investigations are exploring the possible involvement of outlawed insurgent outfits.
The attack has reignited concerns about a potential resurgence of militant activity in Upper Assam, particularly since Kakopathar has been the site of previous grenade attacks attributed to United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA)- (Independent) faction .
