The battle over industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s multi-crore estate took another dramatic turn in the Delhi High Court on Monday, with his and Karisma Kapoor’s children standing firmly against what they call a forged Will. The courtroom was charged with tension as senior advocates on both sides debated the authenticity of a document that could determine the fate of a Rs 30,000 crore fortune.
The suit was filed by Sunjay Kapur’s children, Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Raj Kapur, through their mother, actress Karisma Kapoor. They claim that the will in court is fabricated and riddled with inconsistencies. This, they say, left them with no choice but to fight for their rightful share of their father’s personal assets.

Appearing for the children, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani didn’t hold back. He painted a picture of a document so flawed that it could not possibly have been drafted by Sunjay Kapur himself. “It is absurd that the will refers to Sunjay Kapur as a woman. It uses pronouns like ‘she’ and ‘her’,” he said.

Jethmalani also highlighted the glaring omission of Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, from the will. In the past, she had always been considered in his financial arrangements. “There is no registration of this will, which is highly irregular for a testament of such magnitude,” Jethmalani argued.
He questioned why a person would leave an estate of such enormous value to their spouse without proper registration.
Adding to the intrigue, the senior lawyer raised doubts about who actually prepared the document. He suggested it might have been laptop-drafted by someone named Nitin Sharma.
“Neither the defendants nor the witnesses have been able to explain this basic fact,” he said. He stressed that the sudden flurry of activity around the will only began after they challenged in court.

The courtroom drama was further intensified by Priya Kapur’s legal team. Before the hearing ended, her senior advocate defended her, saying that Jethmalani had unfairly painted Priya as a “Cinderella stepmother”.
Instead, she argued, Priya had acted more like a “Fairy Godmother”. She reportedly covered expenses for the children, including nearly Rs 1 crore since June 2025, as well as paying for Karisma Kapoor’s flight and hotel after Sunjay Kapur’s death.
This case is just the latest twist in the ongoing saga of Sunjay Kapur’s estate. On September 12, the Delhi High Court had allowed Priya Sachdev Kapur and her minor son to correct an earlier order that mistakenly recorded the appearance of Mandhira Kapur, Sunjay Kapur’s sister, who was not a party to the suit. The rectification plea claimed that this error created a misleading record, potentially amounting to a “backdoor entry” into the case.
The stakes are enormous. The children’s suit seeks the partition of the Rs 30,000 crore estate, detailed accounts of assets, and a permanent injunction against Priya Kapur and other family members.
With arguments likely to happen the next day, all eyes will be on the court as it examines every claim, counterclaim, and twist in this high-profile family drama.
