Coming down heavily on Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati for praising the Yogi-led Uttar Pradesh government and targeting the Samajwadi Party during a massive rally in Lucknow on Thursday, SP national president Akhilesh Yadav said this smacked of an “internal collusion” between the BJP and the BSP.

“The internal collusion continues,” he said, reacting to BSP supremo Mayawati heaping praise on the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh government.

On Thursday, SP leaders paid homage to Kanshi Ram on his death anniversary at the Samajwadi Party office.

Addressing a press conference on the occasion, Yadav said, “During our government, we planted trees at the Kanshi Ram memorial site and formally ordered the LDA to maintain it, but today the stones at the memorial have turned black,” he said on the poor upkeep of the memorial by the BJP. “The truth is, if the BJP had properly maintained the stones, they wouldn’t have turned black.”

Taking a dig at the BJP, he claimed that the BJP is looking to set a world record for false cases. “The BJP is number one in lying. According to NCRB data, Dalits are the most oppressed in Uttar Pradesh, and women’s safety is also at risk. Discrimination in police stations and inequalities in appointments persist. The BJP’s policies are solely for power and wealth.”

Referring to the violence in Bareilly, the SP leader said the UP government did not allow him nor his delegation to visit the site. “Our office colleagues and employees know that the government didn’t want me to land in Bareilly or travel by road. The Bareilly violence was a failure of the administration. It was deliberately orchestrated to benefit the BJP politically.”

He also questioned the police’s role in the incident, allegeing all this was done to suppress the Kanpur Akhilesh Dubey incident wherein a clerk earned Rs 100 crore. Yadav said the DM was posted in a district like Bareilly to ensure victory in the Katehari assembly constituency. “In Bareilly, the bulldozers were used against the poor, Muslims, and SP leaders, not against other members of the ruling party. We are against bulldozer culture.”

He said that when the Samajwadi Party comes to power in the state, it will install a statue of Kashiram on the riverfront in Lucknow.

Regarding his recent meeting with Azam Khan, Yadav said, “We had a good meeting and it will continue to be so. Our efforts will be to increase cooperation and raise the voice of the weaker sections of society.”

Akhilesh Yadav said that the struggle of the Samajwadi Party and Netaji has always been in the interest of the oppressed, downtrodden, exploited, and deprived.
