Delhi Congress chief accuses govt officials of collusion in sale of counterfeit food items

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) President Devender Yadav on Tuesday accused government agencies of allowing the sale of spurious and adulterated food items — including ghee, spices, paneer, khoya, and milk — in markets across the city, calling it a serious threat to public health.

He said due to the laxity and collusion of officials in Central and state regulatory bodies, a major racket is operating in the national capital, putting the health of residents at risk.

Yadav pointed out that food adulteration is supposed to be curbed through joint efforts by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Delhi government’s Department of Food Safety. Yet, the continued availability of such spurious products in markets, he said, is deeply concerning.

Spotlighting the flooding of Delhi’s markets with buckwheat flour during the Navratri festival, Yadav alleged that the agencies turned a blind eye, allowing such malpractices to continue. He said this had serious public health implications, leading to the hospitalization of nearly 200 Delhiites at Burari Hospital.

He called out the alleged failure of the BJP government in Haryana and Delhi to detect the fake ghee racket operating in Jind in Haryana, which he said was supplied from Rohini where this spurious stuff is packed in wrappers of Milk Food, Madhusudan, Amul, Mother Dairy, Patanjali, Ananda’s.
