Delhi Police have arrested a 26-year-old man from Haryana’s Nuh district for his alleged involvement in operating a sextortion syndicate, an officer said on Sunday.
According to the police, the accused, Mohammad Naseem, extorted ₹39,000 from a victim by threatening to circulate a morphed video of him on the internet.

On June 5, the complainant reportedly received a video call from an unknown woman, which was immediately disconnected.
“Soon after, the victim received a call from another number. The caller, posing as a cyber police officer, claimed that an explicit video of him would be uploaded on social media,” said Hareshwar Swami, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North).
The officer added that the victim was then connected to another person pretending to be an employee of a social media platform, who demanded money to take down the alleged video.
“Fearing the threat, the victim transferred ₹39,000 in three separate transactions to a UPI ID, only to realise later that he had been duped. He subsequently filed a complaint on the National Cyber Reporting Portal (NCRP),” Swami said.
During the investigation, police analysed call records and bank account details linked to the transactions. Based on the leads, a raid was conducted at Mubarikpur village in Haryana’s Nuh district, leading to Naseem’s arrest.
During interrogation, Naseem revealed that the gang contacted targets through social media video calls, using blurred images of women to initiate conversations, and later posed as law enforcement officials to extort money.
Police said the extorted funds were routed through multiple bank accounts and intermediaries to obscure the money trail.
“Naseem is linked to at least four other NCRP complaints from across India, indicating a wider extortion network,” the officer added. Further investigation into the case is underway.
