India has witnessed a significant decline in violent crimes under the Modi government, with National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data showing a substantial drop in murders, rapes, dowry deaths, and riots since 2014. This decline is particularly notable in crimes against women, making India a safer country for them.
Rape cases are down by 19% from 36,735 in 2014 to 29,670 in 2023.

Dowry deaths fell by 27% from 8,455 in 2014 to 6,156 in 2023, marking one of the sharpest declines among violent crimes.
Riots decreased by 40% from 66,042 in 2014 to 39,260 in 2023, the steepest decline among the four categories of major violent crimes.
Murders decreased by 18% from an average of 33,200 cases per year during the UPA period to 27,721 in 2023.
The government’s initiatives to modernize police forces, strengthen internal security, and introduce tougher provisions for crimes against women and children have contributed to this decline. The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) project, revamped under the government, has linked 17,712 police stations and provides access to over 35.24 crore crime records nationwide.
The government has allocated Rs 4,846 crore since 2021 under the Assistance to States & UTs for Modernization of Police (ASUMP) scheme to equip state police forces with modern technology, advanced communication systems, and upgraded weaponry.
The decline in violent crimes under the government reflects a clear shift towards a safer India, particularly for women. The government’s efforts to modernize policing, strengthen laws, and prioritize internal security have contributed to this positive trend.
