Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal Sunday strongly condemned the alleged large-scale manipulation of electoral rolls, claiming it has shaken people’s faith in the very foundation of India’s Republic. According to Venugopal, the manipulation is not an isolated incident but part of a broader attack on the Constitution, economy, and social justice, posing a significant threat to India’s integrity.

“We will collect 5 crore signatures across India against this blatant assault on democracy. This is fast gaining momentum as a people’s movement, and we call upon every citizen who believes in democracy to join this struggle to defend our Constitution and save the soul of India,” Venugopal said while participating in the “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” signature campaign in Alappuzha’s Kaithavana ward.

The Congress party has launched a nationwide “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” campaign to protest the alleged voter list manipulation. The Congress aims to collect 5 crore signatures nationwide to submit to the Election Commission of India (ECI), highlighting concerns over irregularities in the electoral rolls.

Rahul Gandhi’s recently concluded 16-day yatra covering over 1,300 km across 20 districts in Bihar was aimed at raising awareness about alleged irregularities in voter registration.

Venugopal had earlier also questioned the ECI’s actions, including denying machine-readable electoral rolls to political parties and deleting CCTV footage of polling-related activities within 45 days. “Why did the ECI submit to the Supreme Court that it is not obligated to disclose reasons behind the deletion of 65 lakh names in Bihar?” he had asked.

The controversy has sparked intense debate, with the BJP defending the ECI’s actions and the Congress demanding fair elections with accurate voter lists. As the Bihar Assembly elections approach, the Congress party is intensifying its campaign, urging citizens to join the fight against alleged electoral malpractice.
