Alleging that the BJP-led Delhi government has failed to stop the glut of adulterated goods, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Devender Yadav Wednesday said that the spurious goods have flooded the market with the onset of the festive season.
In a statement here, Yadav claimed that while the Food Safety Department of the Delhi Government looks the the other way, edible items such as khoya, paneer, other milk products, mawa, and kuttu atta (buckwheat) flooding the markets are adulterated with harmful substances like starch in paneer, synthetic fat in khoya, detergent, urea, and plaster of Paris.

“Since the start of the Navratri festival in the Capital, 150–200 residents from Jahangir Puri, Mahendra Park, Samaypur, Bhalswa Dairy, Lal Bagh, and Swaroop Nagar in Burari have suffered food poisoning and are currently receiving treatment at Burari Hospital and Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital,” he said.
Stating that there was a lack of monitoring and resources to detect adulteration in food items, Yadav said that due to a lack of proper monitoring, adulteration continues unabated.
He urged Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to take strict action against adulterators and the government officials colluding to create such nefarious practices.
