Losing Goa
For decades, Goa occupied a singular place in the global imagination. It was not merely a beach destination, but a cultural mood ~ inexpensive, unhurried, and faintly detached from the commercial anxieties of modern tourism.

Union Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav on Friday announced that the 10th Ayurveda Day will be celebrated on September 23 at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, the minister outlined the plan for the day-long event. A series of awareness campaigns, focused on countering misinformation and imparting knowledge on dietary care for diabetics, will be featured in the programme.

This year’s Ayurveda Day will expand its reach by covering the aspects of plant and animal health, as highlighted in the press note from the ministry. Noting the rising incidence of cancer cases in India, the ministry has chalked out plans to integrate cancer care for Tuesday’s programme.

Besides negating false advertisements about ayurvedic medicines, the ministry has created a media platform — ‘Samhita Se Samvad’—to disseminate information about India’s traditional medicine system.
Speaking at the press event, Pradeep Kumar Prajapati, the newly appointed Director of AIIA, also furnished the details of the programme. “Tenth Ayurveda Day will feature awareness programmes, digital campaigns, inter-ministerial collaborations, National Dhanvantari Ayurveda Awards 2025…covering obesity prevention, cancer awareness, student outreach, animal and plant health, and digital integration,” he added.
Reflecting on this year’s theme — ‘Ayurveda for People & Planet’, Jadhav affirmed India’s commitment to advancing Ayurveda as a sustainable, integrative solution for global health and environmental well-being. He noted that Ayurveda is more than a medical science—it is a way of life that harmonises individuals with their environment.
Based on the results of the National Sample Survey Office’s (NSSO) study on Ayush, the minister, in his address, called Ayurveda “the most practised system of treatment,” gaining “widespread acceptance across both rural and urban India.”
