Dhanush has finally revealed the story behind the unique title of his upcoming film ‘Idli Kadai’. Fans had been curious ever since the film was announced. And, now the actor has shared the reason at the grand audio launch held at Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

Speaking at the event, Dhanush said, “In many movies, the title comes from the hero’s name. But in this film, the real hero is not me. It is the Idli shop. That is why we decided to name it ‘Idli Kadai’.”

Dhanush recalled, “I had travelled abroad with Shreyas and Ashwath for a meeting. After the meeting, they went out, but I came back to my room. I was alone, and like always, I turned to Ilaiyaraaja’s music. I was listening to his song ‘Naan erikaarai…’ Some songs have the magic to take you back in time. This one transported me straight to my childhood.”

The song reminded him of summers when he was just eight years old. He would go with his mother to her native village and stay there for nearly two months.

Dhanush explained, “It was a small village, connected only by two buses. But the highlight of that place, at least for me, was one small idli shop. I always wanted to eat there.”

He then shared a personal memory that drew loud applause from the audience. “My sisters and I would work in the fields, picking flowers to earn a few coins. With that little money, we would go to the idli shop. Believe me, I have eaten in the best, most expensive restaurants around the world, but nothing has ever given me the same happiness, peace, and satisfaction as those idlis from that tiny shop.”

It was this emotional connection that inspired him to make a film around the symbol of the ‘idli kadai’.
