National Awards for the team

Mammootty was named Best Actor at the 72nd National Film Awards for his performance in the Malayalam horror thriller ‘Bramayugam’. He shared the honour with Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan.

Director Rajkumar Periasamy received the Best Director award for ‘Amaran’, the Tamil biographical film based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan.

Editor Kalaivanan R also won a National Award for Best Editing for his work in ‘Amaran’. He is serving as the editor for ‘Om’ as well.

Dhanush earned two National Awards this year. His film ‘Raayan’, which he directed, won the award for Best Tamil Feature Film. He also received a Special Mention award for his performance in ‘Captain Miller’.

Latest update on ‘Om’

Director Rajkumar Periasamy had revealed in June that Mammootty plays a character named Karthikeyan in ‘Om’. At that time, he said that around 60 to 65 percent of the film had already been completed.

He had also shared that shooting was continuing and that the project was progressing as planned.

The film is scheduled to release in theatres on October 16 this year.

Story, cast and crew

The title of the film carries the tagline “Chapter 1”, leading to speculation about a sequel. However, Rajkumar Periasamy clarified that the first film tells a complete story on its own.

A title teaser released earlier showed that the story is set around people who make a living by cutting red sanders. Dhanush plays a woodcutter in the film. The teaser features police officers surrounding workers involved in illegal red sanders cutting and holding them at gunpoint before Dhanush’s character steps in to rescue them.

‘Om’ also stars Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela in key roles. The music has been composed by Sai Abhyankkar, while Ezhil Arasu is handling cinematography. Kalaivanan R is the editor, and Kavya Sriram is the costume designer.

The film continues its production as the team prepares for its theatrical release later this year.
