Jharkhand: Rs 1 Crore Bounty Holder among 3 Maoists Killed in Hazaribagh Encounter

Jharkhand Police and the CRPF’s COBRA battalion killed three Maoists in an encounter in the forests of Patitiri under Girhor police station area of Hazaribagh district near the Giridih border on Monday morning. Among those killed was Sahdev Soren, alias Pravesh, a central committee member of CPI (Maoist) carrying a reward of Rs 1 crore.

Police headquarters confirmed the recovery of three bodies and three AK-47 rifles from the site. The others killed were identified as Raghunath Hembram, a member of the Jharkhand Special Area Committee with a reward of Rs 25 lakh, and Vir Sen Ganjhu, a committee member carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh.

Two personnel of the 209 COBRA battalion, Ajay Bhautic of Assam and Subrato Biswas of West Bengal, were injured during the encounter. They have been admitted to a hospital in Hazaribagh and are reported to be out of danger.

The Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police said that search operations are continuing in the Patitiri forests, as there are indications that some Maoists may have escaped with injuries.

Officials stated that the death of Soren ends a long search for a leader who was wanted in several incidents across Jharkhand.
