Criticising the detention of lone AAP MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA), Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said, “There is no justification for detaining Mehraj Malik under PSA. He is not a threat to public safety, and using this discredited law to detain him is wrong.”

Omar expressed his views in a post on X.

He further added, “If the unelected government can use its powers against an elected representative like this, then how does anyone expect the people of J&K to continue to have faith in democracy?”

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal also condemned Malik’s detention, saying the voice of legislators cannot be muzzled by putting them in jail.

Several other National Conference leaders have also criticised the action of the L-G administration.
