Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday strongly objected to a reported government proposal to construct a religious site of another faith within the premises of Buddha Park in Kanpur Nagar.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, she urged the government to immediately withdraw the plan, warning that such a move could lead to social unrest and communal tension.

Highlighting the constitutional principle of secularism, Mayawati said India is a diverse country where people of different religions and castes coexist, each having its own places of worship. She emphasized that Buddha Park holds deep spiritual and emotional significance for followers of Buddhism and Ambedkarite ideology.
She asserted that introducing a religious structure of a different faith in such a location is inappropriate, which could cause disharmony among communities.
“The government must withdraw this proposal immediately, otherwise it may lead to unrest and hatred among the people,” she warned.
