The land of Braj turned into a living canvas of faith and festivity on Sunday as over 7 lakh devotees thronged Barsana, Rawal, and Vrindavan to celebrate Radha Ashtami. From morning till late evening, the chants of ‘Radhe-Radhe’, the beats of drums, showers of flowers, and a sea of pilgrims transformed the holy towns of Uttar Pradesh into an unforgettable spectacle of devotion.
At Radha Rani Temple in Barsana, where celebrations centered, thousands gathered to witness the commencement of the Budi Leela Mahotsav. In Rawal, the birthplace of Radha Rani, special prayers and devotional evenings filled the air with divinity, while in Vrindavan, grand tableaux and rituals at Banke Bihari and Radha Raman temples drew massive crowds.

Barsana stood out with vibrant cultural performances and decorations. Six LED screens installed by the Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad allowed lakhs to watch live darshan, while folk artists filled the streets with traditional instruments like been, nagada, dhol, and tabla. Grand welcome gates along the Govardhan-Barsana and Barsana-Chhata routes, decorated streets, and illuminated temples showcased Braj’s rich cultural legacy.
Beyond devotion, the celebrations brought prosperity to local communities. Hotels, guest houses, restaurants, transport services, sweet shops, and handicraft stalls reported record business. Thousands of temporary jobs were generated, making the festival not just a spiritual event but also a driver of local economic growth. Devotees remarked that the unique blend of faith and culture in Braj cannot be experienced anywhere else.
UP Tourism & Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said, “Radha Ashtami is not only a festival of devotion but also a medium of prosperity for local people. Our government is committed to ensuring that every devotee coming to Braj experiences both convenience and heartfelt hospitality.”
Principal Secretary, Tourism & Culture, Mukesh Kumar Meshram, added that when pilgrims from across India and abroad return with memories of both faith and seamless arrangements, it strengthens Braj’s identity as a premier tourism hub.
ATO Hemant Kumar Sharma highlighted the arrangements that made the festival smoother. Multiple parking zones were created in Barsana, temporary sanitation facilities were set up, and additional staff were deployed to maintain cleanliness. Direction centres guided devotees, while live streaming inside temples enabled thousands to witness darshan peacefully without the rush of crowds.
This year’s Radha Ashtami transformed Braj into a true confluence of devotion, culture, and growth. With decorated streets, devotional performances, massive participation, and modern facilities, the festival left an indelible mark – a celebration where spirituality and prosperity walked hand in hand.
