The additional labour commissioner (ALC) for North Bengal, Partha Biswas, on Friday issued an advisory to the managements of tea plantations across Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong, Terai and Dooars, directing payment of 20 per cent bonus to workers for the financial year 2024–2025.

The additional labour commissioner (ALC) for North Bengal, Partha Biswas, on Friday issued an advisory to the managements of tea plantations across Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong, Terai and Dooars, directing payment of 20 per cent bonus to workers for the financial year 2024–2025.
As per the advisory, workers in all tea gardens of these regions are to receive the bonus by 15 September 2025. The Labour Commissionerate will closely monitor compliance to ensure timely disbursement.

The advisory further states that where an employee’s salary crosses the prescribed eligibility limit under the Payment of Bonus Act, he or she will still be considered eligible, with the calculation made as if the salary had not exceeded the limit. The ceiling for monthly-rated employees remains unchanged from last year.

Biswas also urged both management and trade union representatives to maintain industrial peace, harmony and discipline in the gardens during the disbursement process.
