Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a telephonic conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday during which both the leaders exchanged views on efforts for peaceful resolution of conflicts in Ukraine and in West Asia.
During the course of conversation, the French president shared assessment of the recent meetings held between the leaders of Europe, US, and Ukraine in Washington.

Macron also shared his perspectives on the situation in Gaza.
In a post on X after the telephonic conversation, Modi said, “Had a very good conversation with my friend President Macron. Exchanged views on efforts for peaceful resolution of conflicts in Ukraine and in West Asia. Reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthen the India-France strategic partnership.”
An official statement here said, “Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron.”
PM Modi reiterated India’s consistent support to peaceful resolution of the conflicts and early restoration of peace and stability. “The leaders also reviewed progress in the bilateral cooperation agenda, including in the areas of trade, defence, civil nuclear cooperation, technology and energy. They reaffirmed joint commitment to strengthen India-France Strategic Partnership and mark 2026 as ‘Year of Innovation’ in a befitting manner,” the statement said.
Macron also conveyed support for early conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement between India and the EU.
After the telephonic conversation, the French President also shared a post on X.
“I have just spoken with Prime Minister @NarendraModi. We coordinated our positions on the war in Ukraine in order to move towards a just and lasting peace, with strong guarantees for Ukraine and Europe’s security,” he said.
“On trade issues, we agreed to strengthen our economic exchanges and our strategic partnership in all areas — this is the key to our sovereignty and independence. Following up on the AI Action Summit held in Paris last February, we are working towards the success of the AI Impact Summit to be held in New Delhi in 2026,” the French President said.
“For more effective multilateralism, we agreed to work closely together in preparation for the French presidency of the G7 and the Indian presidency of the BRICS in 2026,” Macron further said.
Several European leaders, including Macron, met the US President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday along with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The development took place following Trump’s meeting with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week.
Besides Macron, the other European leaders who met Trump included UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
