Interacting with the media after the meeting, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said the floor leaders and MPs of the NDA warmly welcomed Radhakrishnan and thanked the Prime Minister for selecting him for the position.
“PM Modi introduced CP Radhakrishnan to the lawmakers at the NDA meet and appealed to everyone to come together and unanimously elect him as the next Vice President,” Rijiju said.
Praising Radhakrishnan, the minister noted that his political journey has remained free of controversies, stains, or corruption charges. “He has lived a simple yet accomplished life, working tirelessly for society and the country. Hence, he is the right person for this office,” he added.
“If he is elected as the next Vice President, it will be a matter of great joy for the country. With his decades of experience and all-encompassing approach, he will be efficient and instrumental in conducting the House proceedings,” Rijiju said.
Radhakrishnan, who hails from Tamil Nadu’s Kongu region, has served two terms as a Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore and is currently the Governor of Maharashtra.
Rijiju further informed that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is engaging with leaders across the political spectrum to build consensus on Radhakrishnan’s election, urging the Opposition to support him unanimously.
The BJP has already begun reaching out to Opposition parties, particularly in southern states, to mobilize support for the NDA’s candidate. The party has also activated its Tamil Nadu unit to garner backing, citing his Tamil roots and successful tenure as the state party president. The Tamil Nadu BJP has urged the DMK and other INDIA bloc parties to extend support to his candidature.
Meanwhile, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Anbumani Ramadoss has announced his party’s support for Radhakrishnan, describing him as the “right choice” for the country’s second-highest constitutional office.
