As the Monsoon Session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly begins Monday, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has called on both the ruling government and the opposition to ensure that the session is not merely a formality, but a meaningful and constructive one.

She emphasised in a statement here the need for both sides to rise above political self-interest, bitterness, and hostility to work in the greater interest of the state and its people.

Mayawati also expressed concern over the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, stating that its inability to function peacefully is disappointing and fails to meet public expectations. She said that due to the disruptions, serious discussions on pressing national issues are not taking place, which is naturally a cause of concern for the public.

The BSP leader further pointed to the impact of heavy US tariffs on Indian trade, warning of potential negative effects on the country’s economy and development. Calling this a critical issue tied to the nation’s promised “achhe din” (better days), she stressed the need for focused and serious debate in Parliament. “This matter must not be taken lightly, as the future of the nation is at stake,” she said, urging both the government and the opposition to give it due attention.

Mayawati also raised the ongoing concerns around voter rolls, their revision, and the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). She said that doubts and suspicions surrounding these issues, which are directly linked to democracy and public interest, should be addressed and resolved at the earliest.
