With an eye on the upcoming elections, the BJP in Kerala has reconstituted its politically crucial core committee, expanding its strength from 15 to 22 members while increasing minority representation and inducting younger leaders.

The focus appears to be on rejuvenating the leadership by ensuring balanced caste, community, and minority representation, as well as bringing in fresh faces to strengthen community outreach ahead of the polls.

Reflecting its recent goodwill towards the Christian community, the party has increased Christian representation from two to four members. New inductees Anoop Antony and Shone George join existing members George Kurian and Anil K Antony.

A P Abdullakutty remains the sole Muslim representative in the panel. Among the new entrants is Sobha Surendran, the only woman leader in the committee. Rajya Sabha MP C Sadanandan and general secretary S Suresh have also been included.

The panel will have two special invitees — State Prabhari Prakash Javadekar and Sah-Prabhari Aparajita Sarangi. Party veteran O Rajagopal and senior leader A N Radhakrishnan have been dropped from the core committee.
