In a message posted on ‘X’, Nitish Kumar said, “Since the formation of the government in November 2005, we have been continuously working to improve the education system. In the year 2005, the total education budget was Rs 4,366 crore, which has now increased to Rs 77,690 crore.”

He noted that significant improvements have been made in the education system through the appointment of a large number of teachers, the construction of new school buildings, and the development of basic infrastructure.

He added: “Cooks, night watchmen, and physical education and health instructors have played an important role in strengthening the education system. Keeping this in mind, we have decided to double their honorarium, making a respectable increase in their remuneration. This will boost the morale of the working staff, and they will perform their duties with greater enthusiasm and dedication.”

Cooks working in the mid-day meal scheme under the Education Department will now receive Rs3,300 per month instead of Rs1,650. Similarly, the honorarium for night watchmen working in secondary or higher education schools has been increased from Rs5,000 to Rs10,000.

The honorarium for physical education and health instructors has been increased from Rs8,000 rupees to Rs16,000 rupees.

Furthermore, their annual salary increment has also been increased 100 per cent — from Rs200 to Rs 400. This will boost the morale of the working staff, and they will perform their duties with greater enthusiasm and dedication.

Nitish Kumar has made a slew of announcements in the last few weeks including an increase in social security pension to senior citizens, widows and people with disabilities, a hike in the pension of accredited journalists under the Bihar Patrakaar Samman Pension Scheme, and the provision of 125 units of free electricity for domestic consumers.
