Indian actress Huma Qureshi is all ready to take her new film ‘Bayaan’ to the international stage. The movie has been selected for its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025, under the Discovery section.
This section introduces exciting new voices in cinema, and ‘Bayaan’ is the only Indian film featured in it this year.

Directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra, who earlier made the critically praised film ‘Chauranga’, ‘Bayaan’ explores the complex realities of present-day India.
According to the director, the film focuses on how power and gender often clash in ways that aren’t always visible.
In his words, it’s “a story about a society in transition, and the quiet courage of those who dare to speak up.”
‘Bayaan’ stars Huma Qureshi in the lead and features an impressive cast that includes Chandrachur Singh, Sachin Khedekar, Sand, Avijit Dutt, Vibhore Mayank, Sampa Mandal, Swati Das, Aditi Kanchan Singh, and Perry Chhabra.
‘Bayaan’ developed at Film Independent in Los Angeles and is production of Shiladitya Bora of Platoon One Films, a company known for award-winning titles like ‘Ghaath’ and ‘Picasso’.
This project also has support from producers Madhu Sharma (Summit Studios), Kunal Kumar, Anuj Gupta, and Sadik Keshwani of Switzerland-based Guidant Films.
Interestingly, Huma Qureshi herself serves as an Executive Producer for the film.
In a statement, Huma shared her excitement and pride: “Bayaan tells a very powerful and timely story. It’s about a woman in a storm of power, religion, and a system built to silence her. I play a character who is a part of the justice system but must fight against forces much bigger than her. It’s a role I’ve always wanted to do, and it was amazing to work with a team that believed in telling this story honestly.”
She also mentioned how honored she feels to have ‘Bayaan’ premiere in the Discovery section, which has launched the careers of top directors like Christopher Nolan, Alfonso Cuaron, and Barry Jenkins.
Director Mishra also reflected on what this moment means for him. “To present my second feature film at TIFF is a dream. The Discovery section has been a launchpad for many great filmmakers, and I hope ‘Bayaan’ finds its own path from here,” he said.
Producer Shiladitya Bora called the film’s selection a huge moment. Bora, known for supporting indie cinema with films like ‘Newton’ (India’s official Oscar entry in 2017) and ‘SIR’ (Cannes 2018), said the team is proud to bring such a meaningful story to an international audience.
