Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Jai Ram Thakur has emphasized the urgent need for area-specific plans to address the widespread destruction caused by natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh.
Thakur on Saturday said that certain parts of Mandi district—particularly the constituencies of Nachan, Seraj, Dharampur, and Karsog—have witnessed unprecedented damage, and only targeted, localized projects can effectively support their recovery.

Thakur stated that he had personally reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, urging them to send a central team to assess the ground reality. Acting on this request, an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) is scheduled to visit Thunag on Sunday to evaluate the extent of the losses.
Once the assessment is complete, Thakur said he will visit Delhi to submit the report and meet key central leaders, including the Union Home Minister, to push for an urgent and generous relief package for the state. He noted that quick financial assistance is vital for rebuilding infrastructure and restoring normalcy in severely affected areas.
Thakur also appealed to the Himachal Pradesh government to actively prepare and implement area-specific plans tailored to the unique challenges of each disaster-affected region. He said that a one-size-fits-all approach would not work, given the diverse geography and varying intensity of damage across the state.
Focused planning, he said, would ensure that relief and rehabilitation efforts are more efficient and impactful.
He expressed his gratitude to the central government for its timely support during rescue and relief operations and hoped for continued assistance in the rebuilding phase. “This is not the time for politics. Our collective focus must be on helping the people who have lost homes, livelihoods, and basic infrastructure,” Thakur said.
