Unhappy with the poor performance of party office-bearers, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari is now looking for support from former office-bearers to strengthen the organisation.

At an over two-hour meeting with around 60 ex-office bearers on Wednesday, it was announced that two dozen departments will be formed whose responsibility will be given to these experienced party workers.

According to sources, these former leaders, who have vast experience and skills were sidelined during formation of the new team. "But keeping in view their experience and abilities, the BJP chief has decided to rope them in for strengthening the party structure," said a source.

After the current office-bearers forgot to organise a programme to observe the death anniversary of party ideologue Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on 23 June, doubts were raised about their abilities.

"The party chief was quite disappointed and thus he held this meeting. He has asked all of us to work as eyes and ears of the organisation as he pointed that several current office-bearers failed to perform to expectation. Thus to strengthen the party, he has requested us to work for the party's future," said one such veteran leader.

Leaders who held posts in state teams or district teams were called for the meeting held at Tiwari’s official residence.

Several former office-bearers including Kulwant Rana, Harcharan Singh Balli, Rekha Gupta, former mayor Rajni Abbi and others attended the meeting.

According to a party insider, the new departments under the ex-office-bearers include good governance, training, policy research, media, media relations, political feedback and response, national programmes and meetings, sahyog and disaster relief, publicity and literature, legal, party journal and publicity among others.

Sources said the heads of these two dozen departments will be announced shortly.  In addition, several new departments will be formed. “These leaders will form their four or five-member teams after consulting the state president,” added the source.
