Gain weight the right way

Always remember the mantra, “Eat today for tomorrow”.

Gain weight the right way

Did you know India leads the world in being home to over 40 per cent of the global underweight population? Yes, the problem is this big. While you will see most of the people struggling to lose weight, the struggle is equal for underweight people.

Being underweight isn’t any better for your health than being overweight. And believe it or not, gaining weight can be just as challenging as losing weight. It can be just as unhealthy as being obese. People who are underweight are at risk of osteoporosis, infections and fertility problems.

Before you read the blog further to know the different ways of gaining weight in the right way, make sure you are “underweight” because being slim and skinny is not always about being underweight. You are underweight only if your body mass index is below 18.5.

So, what’s the way best way to gain weight?

Sure, you can start gobbling down bags of chips and boxes of donuts, but just like when you’re losing weight, the quality of the calories you’re consuming are just as important as the quantity.

Just make sure that most of calories you consume are ‘good’ calories or else you won’t put on muscle mass. Every food you eat should be loaded with good protein, good carbs, healthy fats, and plenty of nutrients.

Some important tips

  • Do weight training to improve your strength and gain muscle mass instead of just fat.
  • Carbs are your friends — you can indulge in rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, etc. as they will help you put on weight.
  • Don’t drink water before meals.
  • Eat more often
  • Get proper sleep.

Over to you

Gaining weight can be a difficult and slow process, but always remember that consistency is the key to long-term success. If losing weight is about the food choices you make, gaining weight is too about it.

Always remember the mantra, “Eat today for tomorrow”.
