Sheoraphuli, 5 January
Mr Soumen Mitra may soon return to the Congress after being allegedly fed up with the wrong policies of the TMC-led government.
Mr Mitra today attended a programme to
celebrate the 129th year of Indian National Congress in B.S Park ground in
Baidyabati, organised by the Hooghly District Congress Committee.
Mr Mitra said: "I joined the Trinamul Congress moved by the call of Parivartan and progress given by TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. I wanted the misrule of the Left Front government to end. But the most promised Parivartan is no different from that of the previous government. None of the promises of progress and growth have yet been seen. Atrocities on women are on the rise, people are feeling unsafe. I can no longer continue with the Trinamul Congress government. I will tender my
resignation on 15 January."
Mr Adhir Chowdhury, who was also present said that the dream of some to eradicate the National
Congress from Bengal will never come true. “I welcome the decision of Soumen Mitra, his return will surely rejuvenate the Bengal Congress to move ahead for a second Parivartan in Bengal,” he said.
