More than 1,000 residents of different villages of Goalpokhar-I and Goalpokhar-II blocks of North Dinajpur district became homeless after a flood-like situation was created due to continuous rainfall for the past two days. The worst affected villages areas are Chakulia, Gandal and Belan villages in Goalpokhar-II blocks and Sahapur, Pachra and Panjipara in Goalpokkhar-I block. The Joint BDO of Goalpokhar-II block, Mr Purnendu Sanyal, said: "There was heavy rainfall in different phases since yesterday. As a result, the rivers like Sudani, Sherwani and Teesta cannel were submerged. Several 100 houses were affected. The homeless persons took shelter in Chakulia High school. Necessary relief will be distributed among them.
