Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, was allegedly attacked on Tuesday while heading to the Superintendent of Police’s office in Cooch Behar. The BJP leader was en route to submit a deputation over the alleged targeting of party workers when his convoy was attacked in the Khagrabari area around 12:35 pm.
A mob, reportedly holding Trinamool Congress (TMC) and black flags, pelted stones, hurled shoes, and vandalised multiple vehicles, leaving windshields shattered.

Adhikari escaped unhurt, but the BJP has strongly condemned the incident. Speaking to reporters, Suvendu has termed it a “pre-planned murderous attempt”. The BJP has alleged that the ambush was orchestrated with the support of TMC’s top leadership. BJP leaders claimed the attack could not have happened without strong political backing and accused local police of remaining passive during the chaos.
The Trinamool Congress, however, dismissed the allegations.
