CENTCOM confirmed the attack through a post on the social media platform X. The US Central Command stated that the strikes aimed to root out Islamic terrorism against its warfighters and prevent future attacks. The post highlighted that the US remains committed to ensuring the protection of American and partner forces in the region. It asserted that the US forces will continue to pursue terrorists who seek to harm the country.

“Our message remains strong: if you harm our warfighters, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world, no matter how hard you try to evade justice,” the post said.

Operation Hawkeye Strike

The US President Donald Trump had launched the Operation Hawkeye Strike on 19 December last year, in response to the ISIS attack on US and Syrian forces in Palmyra, Syria, on 13 December 2025.

According to the US forces, an ISIS terrorist had conducted the Palmyra. Two US soldiers and one US civilian interpreter had lost their lives in the attack.

The soldiers were identified as Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres Tovar (25) of Des Moines, Iowa, and Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard (29) of Marshalltown, Iowa. They were members of the Iowa National Guard. They were part of the 1,800 troops deployed to the Middle East in 2025 as part of Operation Inherent Resolve against ISIS.
