At least two persons were killed in shooting at a Central Michigan University residence hall in Mt. Pleasant on Friday, the media reported.

Michigan State Police confirmed the news, saying the gunman remains at large, Xinhua reported.

The university, in a tweet, said those killed were not students and the “police believe the situation started from a domestic situation”.

The shooting happened near the 4th floor of Campbell Hall, a co-ed residence building. Classes have been cancelled and students have been told to shelter in place and avoid the area.

CM Life, the university’s student newspaper, tweeted that they spoke to an officer on the scene and were told the alleged shooter is still on the premises.

According to the City of Mt. Pleasant Twitter account, the suspect is a 19-year-old black male and considered armed and dangerous.

Michigan State Police(MSP) officials said troopers are assisting with the search.

“We are aware of the ongoing shooting at Central Michigan University,” officials tweeted.

“MSP is committing aviation, canine and Emergency Support Team resources at this time. The Central Michigan University police department is the lead agency investigating this incident.”

Central Michigan University, located about 155 miles northwest of Detroit in the US state of Michigan, has about 23,000 students.
