Delay in issuing ‘gate pass’ led to tension at Atharbanki as irate drivers clashed with the CISF personnel and ransacked the office where the entry pass was being issued. The mob also blocked the road at Atharbanki demanding to take action against CISF guards. 

It is learnt that a truck driver Mr Surendra Behera was waiting in the queue to obtain entry pass for his vehicle to get in to the port area for unloading cargo. There was a delay which resulted in a heated exchange of words with the CISF personnel. Behera was allegedly manhandled by the CISF personnel. This provoked the drivers and helpers of other trucks and they turned violent. 

The mob soon ransacked the gate pass room and damaged the grill of the gate. They blocked the road at Atharbanki for three hours paralysing the CuttackParadip state Highway and Paradip-Chandikhole national highway. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road. 

Commuters suffered a lot for three hours. Paradip police led by Inspector-In-Charge Mr Subhransru Sekhar Nayak rushed to the spot and pacified the irate drivers and helpers. They assured that action will be taken against errant CISF personnel.After the assurance, the agitated drivers lifted the road block.
