Terror threat far from over, says Italian PM Paolo Gentiloni

The threat posed by terrorism is “far from over”, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni has warned, saying that “unprecedented” resources have been earmarked for security.

“We must keep working to defeat the terrorist threat, which is far from over,” Gentiloni said during a presentation of the Security Intelligence Department’s annual report on Tuesday.

“We have done a lot of work to invest economic resources. And we have finally been able to allocate unprecedented amounts to the (security) sector,” he said.

Gentiloni also said that keeping Italy safe required constant vigilance against the risk of cyber attacks. “Defending Italy means safeguarding against cyber risks as all our key systems are based on the Internet,” he said.
