Russia has a significant number of nuclear submarines in the world’s oceans, with some lawmakers dismissing the US deployment as insignificant.
Security analysts have described Trump’s move as a rhetorical escalation, noting that the US already has nuclear-powered submarines deployed and capable of striking Russia. Meanwhile, Russia has set out its own terms for peace in Ukraine, and has given no indication that it will comply with Trump’s 10-day deadline.
