The conflict between Iran and the United States widened further on Saturday after Jordan said it intercepted 10 Iranian missiles that entered its airspace, while neighbouring Kuwait activated its air defence systems to counter fresh missile and drone attacks.

The latest military activity spread the impact of the fighting across multiple Gulf nations. Jordan reported no casualties or damage from the interceptions, while Kuwaiti authorities urged residents to remain calm as air defence systems engaged incoming threats.

Jordan says 10 Iranian missiles intercepted

Jordan’s armed forces said air defence units intercepted and destroyed 10 Iranian missiles that crossed into the kingdom’s airspace during the early hours of Saturday.

The military said the operation was carried out to protect the country’s sovereignty and public safety.

According to a statement, the interceptions were conducted in line with standard defensive procedures.

Al Jazeera later reported that no casualties or material damage occurred inside Jordan. It added that Royal Engineers teams had begun clearing debris from the interception sites.

Kuwait repels fresh missile and drone attacks

Kuwait also confirmed that its air defence systems were actively intercepting missiles and drones after what the country’s military described as “sinful Iranian aggression”.

The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army said explosions heard across parts of the country were the result of air defence operations against incoming threats.

Officials did not disclose possible targets or casualty figures.

The military appealed to the public to remain calm and follow safety instructions issued by civil defence authorities.

In a post on X, the armed forces said this was the second time in the past few hours that Kuwaiti forces had engaged hostile targets.

US expands strikes as Iran retaliates

The fresh attacks came after the United States expanded military operations against Iran.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it carried out strikes between about 3 pm and 9:30 pm ET on Friday.

According to CENTCOM, US forces used fighter aircraft, drones, warships and other assets to strike surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage facilities and maritime capabilities.

“CENTCOM continues to hold Iran accountable at the Commander in Chief’s direction while fully enforcing a naval blockade against Iranian ports,” the command said.

Iran responded by launching missiles towards several US-aligned countries in the Gulf, including Qatar and Kuwait.

Kuwaiti officials said one desalination facility was damaged during the retaliatory attacks.

Strait of Hormuz tensions deepen

The fighting has entered its fifth month, with both sides continuing military operations around the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM said it had completed its seventh consecutive night of operations targeting Iranian military assets.

Iran also claimed that two oil tankers caught fire after hitting naval mines while attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

However, Tehran did not provide evidence to support the allegation. CENTCOM rejected the claim and described it as “false” in a social media statement.

The conflict has continued to disrupt commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz after Iran effectively closed the route following the launch of joint US and Israeli military operations on February 28.

According to the source material, crude oil prices rose above USD 86 per barrel on Friday as vessel movements through the strategic waterway fell to a three-week low.

Chabahar port among latest targets

In another development, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported that US strikes brought down a tower at Chabahar Port on the Gulf of Oman. The US military later confirmed the strike.

Iran said the structure managed commercial shipping traffic.

CENTCOM disputed that claim, saying the tower was part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ maritime surveillance network used to monitor vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump defended the military campaign on Thursday.

“We are likewise winning big in Iran, and you will see the fruits of that labour very, very shortly,” he said.
