IRGC claims Jordan-based intelligence aided attacks on US forces as Iran conflict escalates

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that individuals in Jordan supplied intelligence that helped it launch attacks on US military targets in the country, as fighting between Tehran and Washington entered its second week.

According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, the IRGC said its cross-border operation destroyed 20 hangars used by US forces at Jordan’s al-Azraq air base and killed dozens of American troops.

The United States has reported significantly lower casualties, saying 17 American service members have been killed since the conflict began.

The IRGC also claimed its ballistic missiles struck US C-17 transport aircraft and P-8 maritime surveillance aircraft stationed at Aqaba airport, causing extensive damage.

The statement came after the United States launched another wave of air strikes across Iran early on Monday following the reported death of an additional American soldier.

According to the report, Iran responded by firing missiles towards neighbouring Jordan.

Earlier, the Pentagon said its operations were aimed specifically at the IRGC in retaliation for the deaths of US personnel in Jordan during Friday’s attack.

US defence officials also said one service member remains missing. They added that unidentified human remains recovered on Sunday were undergoing examination. Washington has placed the total US military death toll at 17.

As the conflict intensified, US fighter aircraft continued strikes on infrastructure inside Iran, including bridges and electricity facilities, according to the report.

Separately, a commercial vessel caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman early Monday, the British military said. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.

The incident occurred as merchant shipping in the strategic waterway continued to operate under US naval advisories, warning vessels to avoid sea lanes under Iranian control.

The IRGC later said it was targeting tankers transiting the chokepoint.

Iran also continued attacks against US-aligned countries in the region. Air defence systems in Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait were activated to intercept incoming drones and missiles, according to the report.

The US Embassy in Bahrain issued a security advisory warning that Iran could target unspecified locations in central Manama, though it did not provide further operational details.

Israel also warned that Iranian missiles passing over Jordan could spark wildfires that might spread into Israeli territory.
