Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday met with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of Myanmar, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China.
The meeting underscored India’s commitment to its Neighborhood First, Act East, and Indo-Pacific policies, with a focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

During the meeting, PM Modi and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing reviewed bilateral ties and discussed the way forward on several aspects of cooperation, including, a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs said.
The two leaders resolved to step up progress on ongoing connectivity projects to foster greater interaction between the people of the two countries and promote regional cooperation and integration.
It was also felt that there was a need to enhance cooperation in defence and security to address common challenges and promote stability in the region and to further improve border management and trade to facilitate economic exchange and cooperation.
PM Modi expressed hope that the forthcoming elections in Myanmar would be held in a fair and inclusive manner, involving all stakeholders.
He emphasized India’s support for a Myanmar-led and Myanmar-owned peace process, stressing that peaceful dialogue and consultation are essential for achieving lasting peace.
PM Modi reiterated India’s readiness to support Myanmar’s developmental needs, building on the country’s Act East policy. The meeting highlighted India’s commitment to promoting regional cooperation and integration, while respecting Myanmar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
