The Human Resources Development ministry has removed the chairman of the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, Vasanta Ramaswamy.
NIT Rourkela received a communique from the ministry of MHRD that the current chairman Vasanta Ramaswamy was removed from her post.
“We received a communication from the government that she has been removed by the order of the visitor of the institution, the President of India” informed the registrar of NIT Rourkela SK Upadhaya.
Reacting to the news president of NIT Rourkela teacher&’s association BB Biswal said, “It was expected much earlier as we had learnt that the government had already begun the process of her removal.”
It all began last year, when turf war emerged between the ex-director of NIT Rourkela SK Sarangi had suspended the Registrar Upadhyaya on charges of alleged insubordination.
Upadhyaya had reported some issues to the chairman and this did not go down with the director. However, this led to a tussle between the chairman of board of governors and the director of the institute.
The chairman wanted the director to withdraw the suspension order but the director refused to oblige. The spat between the two reached the Union HRD ministry.
However, the then minister MHRD Smriti Irani, did not intervene in the order of the director.
