The first thing I noticed in Istanbul was the sound. Not the noise of traffic or the chatter of tourists, but the haunting call to prayer drifting across the city from distant minarets.
A number of gunmen attacked a mosque here on Friday and an explosion was heard, police said.
Witnesses and residents said the explosion occurred inside the Imam Zaman mosque complex in Qala-e-Najarha area, Tolo News reported. Police have cordoned off the area.

Many worshippers were inside the mosque when the explosion took place, Tolo said.
