At least 18 people were killed and many injured after a twin blast hit a mosque in Nangarhar province during Friday prayers, according to local officials.

The incident took place in the afternoon in the Jaw Dara area of Haska Meyna district, TOLO news reported.

“The death count will rise. Most of the wounded have been taken to nearby hospitals,” an official said.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the blasts.

Earlier this week, at least seven people were killed and many wounded after a car bomb blast rocked outside the administrative office in Alishing district in Afghanistan’s eastern Laghman province.

Last month, at least four security personnel were killed after a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle near a military base.

Earlier in September, 12 people have been killed and dozens wounded after a Taliban suicide bomber driving an explosives-laden car blew himself up near a heavily-guarded government office complex in the centre of the Afghan capital.
