Shaista Parveen, wife of jailed mafia don and former MP Atiq Ahmed, joined the BSP in Prayagraj on Thursday. Former MP and senior BSP leader Ghanshyam Chandra Kharwar was present at a conference to welcome Shaista.
Shaista Parvani took the membership of the party at the BSP workers’ conference organised at Sardar Seva Sansthan, Alopibagh. She said she will now go to Lucknow to meet BSP supremo Mayawati.
The Bahujan Samaj Party, after poor performance in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, now wants to prepare a different equation from civic body elections.

The BSP is targeting the Dalit-Muslim equation in the urban local body elections.
In this sequence, the BSP has nominated Imran Masood’s wife for Saharanpur mayor’s post and is likely to project Shaista as mayoral candidate from Prayagraj.
Shaista Parveen had joined AIMIM before the 2022 assembly polls but did not contest the polls. She had met Mayawati a month ago and announced to contest the mayoral election from Prayagraj.
Atiq Ahmed, a former MP, is presently lodged in the Ahmedabad jail.
