One of the key accused in the death case of Assam's iconic musician Zubeen Garg, the festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta’s bail plea will come up for hearing before the Gauhati High Court on Friday.

Assam’s complex electoral landscape — long shaped by indigenous tribal groups, tea garden workers, the Ahom community, Assamese Muslims, and other ethnic blocs — now has a new and unpredictable factor: the legacy of state’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg, who died in Singapore while swimming in a sea without a life jacket.
“SPF does not suspect any foul play,” the statement, released by the SPF’s Public Affairs Department, said.
"Yesterday I met Dr S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister, he immediately called the Singapore authority and he conveyed my uneasiness about not allowing the Assam police team to visit Singapore.
Following massive public outcry, the Assam government constituted a Special Investigation Team headed by ADGP (CID) Munna Gupta to work in close coordination with the Singapore Police.
According to the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Gandhi will arrive in Guwahati and proceed to Sonapur, on the outskirts of the city, where Zubeen Garg has been laid to rest.
The step was taken to ensure peace and tranquillity in the district while maintaining a law and order situation.
