Xi Jinping

China’s Confidence

In the complex theatre of global politics, Xi Jinping’s China stands as a self-assured protagonist, asserting its vision of a multipolar world with a conviction that borders on swagger.

Surface calm

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders’ summit next month in San Francisco will be watched closely by many. American President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to meet on the sidelines of the summit at a time of extreme volatility in the international system.

Putin and post-communist age

In 1999, just before becoming president, Putin wrote in a Russian newspaper: “For the first time in the past 200-300 years, Russia faces the real danger that it could be relegated to the second, or even the third tier of global powers.”

Dialogue dynamics

India needs to be cognizant of two points the real Chinese intentions and the approach it will adopt to achieve its intended goal. We must not allow the comity of nations to get fooled by the overt display of eagerness to settle the current conflict through dialogue. Secondly, whatever resolution we achieve in this case, going back to status quo ante will be a temporary acceptance of peace by Xi Jinping who is trying to jettison Deng Xiaoping's approach and adopt the more aggressive Maoist philosophy.

HK shall not be moved

Though China is on course to intensify repression under Xi Jinping, greater international solidarity and willingness to challenge Beijing might have helped Hong Kong.
