In a sweeping restructuring of India’s rural employment framework, the Centre on Monday announced that the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025, or VB–G RAM G Act, will come into effect nationwide from July 1, 2026, replacing the nearly two-decade-old Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
The Chintan Shivir, organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, is taking place at the University of Patanjali in Haridwar.

He was addressing the day-long National Governance Conference on “Holistic Development of Districts: Transforming Governance for Viksit Bharat”, organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India, in collaboration with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
He noted that India’s transformation from being counted among the “Fragile Five” economies in 2014 to emerging as the world’s fourth-largest economy reflects a decisive shift in national confidence, capability, and policy direction.
The report suggested that to achieve the Viksit Bharat goal by 2047, India may need to significantly increase its tax-to-GDP ratio, primarily through improved tax compliance, as major tax reforms have already been undertaken.
The government on Friday claimed that India’s role and share in global trade are poised for a major leap in line with the country’s ambition and journey towards Viksit Bharat.
