The move has enabled private airline operators to run new flights to a dozen cities in the country.

Some policy changes may be required to rejuvenate the economy, the first being to remove the focus from big business and promote small enterprises, primarily, by reducing their burden of taxation. As of now, the tax structure favours the rich; the rate of taxation on firms and individuals is almost double the corporate tax rate.

Fuel has become cheaper by Rs Four in the city. An official spokesperson said Rs 1.50 cut in the VAT will be effective from midnight.

Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee Media Cell Chairman Naresh Chauhan blaming the Narendra Modi led NDA government for escalating prices demanded that they should provide some respite to the public.
Congress in-charge for Himachal Pradesh Rajni Patil said that to bring down petrol and diesel prices in Congress-ruled states, efforts will be made to cancel VAT and also pressure will be exercised on BJP ruled states to follow suit.
