AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami alleged that Vijay formed the TVK government by luring some members with promises of ministerial berths and board appointments.
Vijay used his first major Assembly speech as chief minister to frame TVK as a secular, inclusive force as the party comfortably crossed the trust vote hurdle.
Quoting Abraham Lincoln’s famous definition of democracy as a government “of the people, by the people and for the people,” Vijay said legislative institutions must remain rooted in democratic principles and public welfare.
Udhayanidhi Stalin recalled that he and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay used to study at the same college.
According to an official notification issued by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretariat, the first sitting of the newly constituted House commenced at 9.30 am in the Legislative Assembly Chamber at the Secretariat in Chennai. All newly elected members were directed to attend the session and carry their election certificates for the oath-taking ceremony.
Ahead of the impending election to the Tamil Nadu Assembly, the DMK government of MK Stalin has deposited Rs 5,000 in the bank accounts of the 1.31 crore women beneficiaries of the flagship Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam (Kalaignar Women’s Financial Right Scheme), under which women were extended Rs 1,000 a month.
Since the assembly election is expected in April-May, this could be the last session of the current Tamil Nadu Assembly. The duration of the session would be decided by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), he said.
The Tamil Nadu chief minister said, "It is the tradition of the Tamil Nadu legislature to sing the ‘Thamizh Thai Vazhthu’ (Invocation to Mother Tamil) before the commencement of the Governor’s address and towards the end, play the national anthem."
With this, Tamil Nadu has joined the list of Opposition-rules states like Punjab, Telangana, and Karnataka which have passed resolutions against the VB-G RAM G Act, alleging that the new model sounded a death knell for the programme.
Stalin said that the actions of the Governor "insulted" the House and were against the protocols.
