The merger of Steel Authority of India's two under-rated key plants has now emerged as the lone resort to overcome the longstanding land dispute that stranded modernisation of Durgapur Steel Plant for four years.
SAIL runs a dedicated mini rail network within its plants and mines premises to ensure seamless transportation of inbound raw materials, in-process transfers and outbound finished products.
INTUC president Debashish Choudhury said that the SAIL should focus on the issue of safety of iats workers as regular incidents of accidents are creating a fear amongst the contractor workers.
Mr Mitra apprehended that these Plants in Bengal would “either be asset stripped or sold off in the name of disinvestment, having crippled them through the current policy shift”.
