The Sensex pared part of the gains due to profit-taking in the last hour of the trade. It touched a low of 57,848.23 points in the intra-day.
The 30 stock S&P BSE Sensex closed 390.58 points or 0.68 per cent down at 57,235.33 points against its previous day's close at 57,625.91 points. The Sensex started the day in the red at 57,512.74 points and it slumped to a low of 57,055.75 points in the intra-day. The Sensex touched a high of 57,568.14 points in the intra-day.
At 9.46 am, Rupee appreciated marginally from the previous day's close to trade at 82.288 per US dollar.
Among the Nifty 50 stocks, 41 declined and the rest 9 advanced this morning, National Stock Exchange data showed.
At 9.33 am, Sensex traded at 57,859.41 points, down 131.70 points or 0.23 per cent, whereas Nifty traded at 17,201.15 points, down 39.85 points or 0.23 per cent.
