Biden on Monday had his first face-to-face meeting with Erdogan after taking office on the sidelines of the NATO summit
There are no outstanding problems between the US and Turkey that cannot be solved, Erdogan told journalists
“Yes, we are discussing the localisation of S-400 production with India,” diplomatic sources said.
Although President Trump had expressed sympathy for Turkish compulsions during a meeting with President Erdogan at the G20 meeting in Osaka last month, Washington has repeatedly said that the purchase of S-400 is incompatible with Nato systems.
While the purchase of the S-400 missile systems did not figure in the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump in Osaka last week, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had told US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during his visit to New Delhi that India would do what was in its national interest.
The US repeatedly warned that it would cut off Turkey's purchase of F-35 fighters if Ankara goes ahead with plans to buy the Russian S-400 missiles.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the US-India partnership is reaching new heights with cooperation in the defence and other sectors and a common vision for free and open Indo-Pacific.
Pompeo is arriving here on Tuesday night for the first high-level engagement between the two countries since the Modi government assumed office for the second time after the recent Lok Sabha elections.
