Rejecting allegations of cross-voting by the ruling National Conference (NC) MLAs in the polling for four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister and NC vice-president Omar Abdullah on Friday said that the party’s votes had remained intact and questioned where the four extra votes for BJP president Sat Sharma came from.
BJP had fielded its candidates on three of the four seats but only Sat Sharma won, while the two other candidates Rakesh Mahajan and Ali Mohammad Mir lost the election.
Announcing the decision in Srinagar, the J&K UT Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra said, “We have pushed all our differences with the NC to the backburner to prove our commitment to our ethos.”
The Rajya Sabha elections for six seats in Maharashtra could go uncontested as the BJP has nominated only three candidates for the polls — Chavan, Medha Kulkarni, and Dr Ajeet Gopchade.
She said she will not contest the next Lok Sabha elections because of health reasons and increasing age.
